Agnes’ Secret

1938 – Papa and Agnes

Agnes had a big secret that she never told her third husband, or her fourth, my maternal grandfather.

As well as owning a concrete grain silo and bridge construction company, at the end of Prohibition, John “Papa” Kruzick built and owned the Indian Head Tavern in Winamac IN. His first wife, Rosa, died unexpectedly after an appendectomy in 1929, leaving him with eight children, from teenagers to toddlers.

In 1939, Papa married Agnes Tebodo Eyke, a thrice married widow. Agnes had two grown children, a son and a daughter.

One year later, after six months of suffering an initial stroke, Agnes, 68, died after a second stroke.

During the estate proceedings, a big secret was discovered.
